Starting out on any fitness journey is hard. It’s a lot like traveling, as you may already know. With every different place you discover – you recreate yourself.
Fitness is a lot the same way. The thing is, once you start, fitness is just a continual process. You’re always learning, and that’s a good thing!
It’s just like when you stepped onto your first airplane fresh off of training in front of dozens of people, or explored a different country or city for the first time – fitness will be the same exact way.
You’ll be put in uncomfortable situations where you’re not 100% sure you know what you’re doing — but you go for it anyway. Whether it’s with traveling or fitness , everyone starts somewhere.
I first started my fitness journey when I was younger: I was just learning the ropes and had wanted to compete in a fitness competition. I learned from fitness magazines, websites, family, or just by watching people at the gym.
A great first step is to contact a local trainer who will help you in person. You can check out my Instagram feed for motivation and a few tips and tricks. Hopefully soon I’ll posting a few videos on my Instagram as well, so stay tuned! Keep in mind, I’m trying to get back to where I used to be as well. I’m right there with you and understand all the hurdles of the job.
I try to put myself into a beginners shoes – and if I were beginning again – I would start by doing my research into the different types of exercises with weights that you can do. Most importantly, learn about your body. Where are your chest muscles? What works your chest muscles? What are deltoids? What exercises work your deltoids? How do you work your triceps?
A good resource is www.bodybuilding.com. They have some great resources including an app you can download on your phone that will show you the exercises. You can also post your progress pictures and post your stats – including weight, height, measurements of your body such as body fat percentage, etc. They also have free meal plans and workouts for those of you who are on a budget or can’t afford a trainer. It’s a phenomenal website for beginners! Check it out.
If you’re on Instagram a few pages to follow is @HIITMAX and @MORELLIFIT. He does really well at posting exercises and how to do them. I will update you with more great pages to follow as I discover them.
Another important thing to remember is that your nutrition is going to be KEY. Your body isn’t going to see results unless your nutrition is on point.
I encourage everyone to weight lift. The reason why is because it helps shape your body! I used to not have a butt at all, thanks to squats, deadlifts, etc, I now have a butt! I used to be really scared about going onto the weight room floor. If you need to, try one exercise at a time, or one muscle group at a time. Just go explore the gym just like you do in those new cities you fly into — I know you are all explorers!
Regardless of where you are in life, fitness will help shape you into a new person. Everyone deserves to feel good about themselves, some (including me in the past) have used it as a means to escape, or to build a new “person” so to speak. Ladies and Gentleman, you are all on my team, and I’m here to help you succeed as much as possible! If I can’t answer your questions – I’ll find someone who can.
I understand not everyone is a weight lifter. The best thing about life and fitness is you get to choose your way. You can be a dancer, you can be a rock climber, a hiker, do yoga. It’s all up to you. I like to be diverse and I believe in it all. Just as long as you’re active.
I won’t make this first fitness and goals blog too long, but I wanted to throw out some beginner resources for you all that you can try, and explain what your fitness journey might look like. Remember: Everyone starts somewhere. Just like you took on the adventure of the skies for the first time, you can find your fitness vision and begin the journey towards a healthier you.
Have a great day!
